LCA, Comeaux, Ascension Episcopal among area teams headed to new classes

Ascension Episcopal, which enjoyed success in Class 2A, will return to 1A and appears set for a reunion with Vermilion Catholic.
"It's a move that we feel benefits our entire athletic program," AES football coach Stephen Hearen said. "Our administration came to the decision and our coaches within the athletic department are all on board."
And while they expect to remain competitive in 1A, Hearen said it won't be easy dropping in class. "I'm excited about the future," Hearen said. "This is going to benefit not just our football program, but all of our sports. We always hope to put our kids in the best position for them to be successful. There's no easy button that we can press for success. There are still a lot of quality programs in 1A."
